Journey: 1978-06-10 Passaic, NJ (Pro Shot DVD)

After 15+ years of waiting, this show has finally surfaced!  This was the first Journey live recording I ever got on audio and it was incomplete and not very good (audio-wise) sounding.  A few years back, I got a single, lossy video clip of one song from this show.  And after that, I knew it was only a matter of time before the show would hopefully surface.  It's been in Wolfgang's Vault (a.k.a. Bill Graham's vault) for who knows how many years and now it is free!

Whoever put this DVD together didn't know Journey's songs very well.  The titles are incorrect (like "Feelin' That Way Too" instead of "Feeling That Way" which is correct) on a few songs and the chapter marks are horrible.  There are a few songs that did not get tracked individually as they should have so it leaves you with two songs and other things like WNEW comments on a few chapters.  Still, I'm not complaining.  I'm just stating the facts.  I may rebuild this DVD in the future and do it correctly?

Why this is a PAL formatted DVD is beyond me too?  Since this was an American concert and filmed in the NTSC (29.97 fps) format is should have not been converted to PAL.  This means the source, the NTSC formatted video, is still out there.  The only big difference this will make to viewers in America, Japan, and other countries using the NTSC video format is that viewers in non PAL regions will need a region free DVD player (I bought one a good while back) or they'll have to play the DVD via their Play Station or whatever gaming machines also play the PAL formatted discs.  I think they all play them, but not being a gamer, I cannot tell you for sure which might not.  Any computer CD/DVD drive should play it normally too.  Again, if I decide to rebuild this DVD, I'll be converting it back to the NTSC format as it originally was filmed in.

One last note I want to mention is this is a black and white video.  It is NOT in color.  But this was very common at Passaic's Capitol Theatre through the 1970's just like it was at Bill Graham's Fillmore West in the earlier 1970's.  In fact, I almost wonder if Bill Graham's crew filmed this show because there is one camera that has a tiny spot on it that video doesn't pass through.  It was probably burned into the camera just the same way plasma HDTV's, old DOS days PC screens, etc did if an image was left on the screen too long and no screen saver was used.  I've heard of pixels in cameras going bad and that might be the case too?  This also may just be a common problem with older black and white cameras too?  Every black and white Fillmore West show video (one of Bill Graham's venues) has this smae spot/burned out pixels area in it.  Either way, it's not a big deal and you might not even have noticed it had I not mentioned it.

So kick back, turn up the sound, and take a Journey back in time...and enjoy it too...
