Led Zeppelin: 1980-06-27 Nuremberg, Germany (FLAC_SB 1st Gen_1 CD)

This requested show is either the shortest Led Zeppelin show ever or one of them.  It was stopped after three songs because John Bonham was ill.  They played through "Black Dog" and were about to start "In The Evening" when the song never got started.

After a few moments of silence, Robert Plant asks the crowd to "hang on a tick" and says they have a slight technical problem.  After telling them not to push each other and hang on some more he then says "we just have a minute problem so if you could just wait patiently we'd be very grateful".  Nothing else (recorded anyhow) get said and the show then ends.

The waveform looks fine with no audio clipping, brickwalling, or anything bad in it.  And the audio sounds great-to-excellent too.  This first generation copy sounds better than the TDOLZ Flying Over Nuremberg released copy.

It's too bad a Led Zeppelin soundboard show (or any show) had to be cut short.  I can't help but wonder in John Bonham may have been really hung over or whether or not it was a real sickness like the flu or something?  I'm not sure the flu would be going around in Nuremberg during June though?

This show I had almost forgotten about until the request for it came in.  It got me to thinking of each tour since 1973 Led Zeppelin had done.  Starting in a Vancouver 1973 show (as far as I recall) where Robert Plant got sick after a few songs and was taken to the hospital, the band had at least one show stopping illness each tour after that.  So the 1973, 1975, 1977 (we just had the 39th anniversary of that 1977-04-09 Chicago, Illinois show too), and this 1980 show meant each tour had a show stopping illness.  I cannot recall any shows prior to 1973 right now where an illness stopped it.  But that doesn't mean there may not have been some shows on the earlier tours too that were either cancelled or stopped early.

John Bonham does say he is feeling bad before the band starts "Black Dog".  He says the song reflects how he feels and possibly the other band members.  Again, it really makes you wonder...sure does.

John Bonham only had two days short of two months to live after this night before he died.  What a shame!  But thankfully we do have all of the 1980 concerts and video from a few too to remember the ending days of the great Led Zeppelin live.

I hope you enjoy the show...
